Why is my nursery on HortOS?
The short version. HortOS is a free directory of United States's wholesale plant growers and the plants they have for sale. Every wholesale grower in the country is listed, the way every business is in a phone book. Your page is yours. Claim it, choose who sees your prices, and orders come to you by email. It costs nothing.
1. What HortOS is
HortOS is where buyers in the plant trade look for stock. Landscapers, councils, garden centres and other nurseries search it to find who grows what, then order. It is free for growers and free for buyers. There is no commission on plants and no paid ranking. That will not change.
2. Why your nursery is on it
Your page shows your nursery's name, where you are, your website and what you grow. If you have a current stock list, your page may also show the plants and prices on it. You did not have to sign up for this, in the same way you did not sign up to be in the phone book. The page exists so buyers can find you.
3. What to do: three steps, ten minutes
Step 1. Claim your page.
Press Claim your farm and find your nursery. Type your nursery's email address. Click the link we send you. That is it. The page is now yours and nobody else can change it.
Step 2. Choose who sees your prices.
On your page there is one switch. Show prices to everyone, or show them only to trade buyers we have checked (they sign up with an EIN). Everyone else sees a blurred price. Most growers choose trade only. You can change it any time.
Step 3. Keep your list current.
When you send your stock list to your customers, send it to lists@us.hortosapp.com as well. Your page updates itself. Or upload the file on your page. Nothing else to do.
4. How orders reach you
An order arrives by email, with a picking slip and an invoice in your name. Reply to the email, or press Accept. You set your minimum order, your terms and your freight, and you can pause orders whenever you like. You deal with the buyer directly. HortOS never contacts your customers.
5. If you do nothing
Your page stays, the way a phone book entry stays. Buyers can still find you and send you an order by email, and you answer it or not as you choose. If you would rather your prices were not showing, Step 1 and Step 2 take less time than reading this page.
